Reflections

I dedicate time each day to reflection and introspection. I notice that my sense of well-being is correlated with this time – the less time for reflection, the more rushed and under pressure I feel. The less well I am able to process my stressors, and rejuvenate myself.  I believe that the rising rates of depression and anxiety are in part due to less time being spent in these states; too many readily available distractions and attention/time drains are available to us in modern living. Spending time getting to know yourself almost sounds quaint, but it is just so essential. So much in life is predicated on having a solid understanding of ourselves, our motives and our priorities – not just what they are, but they why behind them.

Just like any pond, you have to let the waters still before you are able to see yourself clearly in them, and so it is important to have time dedicated to this all-important activity.
