The Alexander Technique: A Skill for Life – Pedro De Alcantara

The Alexander Technique, developed in the late 1800’s by F.M. Alexander, is a compelling framework of understanding on the appropriate use of one’s self.  A holistic approach is taken when defining certain concepts such as posture, and through self-awareness, inhibition and cultivation, one can tangibly improve the way one uses one’s self.  One’s ‘posture’ extends into how one reacts to given stimulus or circumstances, creating more opportunities for control throughout the process of doing any given thing.  Many parallels between this work and other traditions of mindfulness, however this is presented in purely scientific terms, with no traces of dogma or mythology – the subject matter is very practice-oriented, which may help the work resonate more with contemporary readers.
